Golnir is the smallest and militarily weakest of the nations of Harkun. Some say that Golnir is really just a glorified Barony of Old Harkuna. The nation is run by the Baroness of Ravayne, and its main military force consists of her Paladins. The rest of the Golniran military is composed of militia. Golnir’s true strength comes from their trade. In the Endless Plains to the north, Golnir produces vast amounts of wheat. In the cities of Ringhorn and Metriciens to the south, Golnir does vast amounts of trade. It is for these two reasons that the conquer of Golnir has long been the goal of Marlock, ruler of Sokarra. He wishes to conquer the weaker nation and thus increase his treasury tremendously, yet he cannot risk it until he first does away with the rebels within his own country. For this reason the Baroness covertly provides the rebels with a great deal of support.
- The nation of Golnir was conquered by its neighbor Sokarra in the year 1105DR. This was the result of a war which began shortly following the Akat-Surain invasion of 1102DR, and coincided partly with the Rise of Nagil. The ultimate result of the war was a Sokarran conquest of nearly all of Golnir, including Metriciens, Ringhorn, and the Castle Ravayne, as well as the death of the Baroness of Ravayne herself. Old Harkuna did eventually intervene (led by Lord Edwin, Duke of Lathan), but not until it was too late. In the final treaty signed between Old Harkuna and Sokarra (since there was no representation of Golnir remaining to sign the peace) Sokarra took all of Golnir save for the town of Delpton and Fort Marmorek, both along the River Reese, which were given to Old Harkuna. The war was devastating, bloody, and brutal and it firmly asserted Grieve Marlock’s power and control of both Golnir and Sokarra.
